I Ching – The Book of Changes, 2014

 

Made of 8 images created in woodcut technique. Each image has been built by 3 combining parts. Each part has the possibility to be head or tail of a 1 euro coin. The project is inspired on the old book “I Ching, The Book of Changes” (on the version of Richard Wilhelm). Usually the chinese people use and consult this text and it shows right directions to any big decision. In each consult it's played 3 coins, that form together one line. Once an hexagram (6 lines) has been formed the book can be consulted. The book counts on a total of 64 hexagrams that resume all vital possibilities.

The nuances of the word changes in portuguese and in spanish suggest a second layer. In additional to the meanings move, switch, transformation and modificacion we have the exchanging (money) meaning.
