The sum of the hours, 2015

The sum of the hours ("La suma de las horas") was exposed in "Sintonies" in Experimentem amb L'art, Barcelona and curated by Esther Vilà and Marc Permanyer.

What can be done with time?/ How would an image that captures the studio movements look like?

This project consists of two parts: The first part is an exposure of my studio through a photography that shows the sum of a total of 67 hours of work in 8 overlapped pictures. The pictures show the studio life and the environment that constitutes my every-day-work as an artist in it. This is a way to present my work to the public and to create a bridge to bond the outside (public) with the inside (work and studio). The purpose of “The sum of the hours” is showing the intimacy of the artist and overcoming barriers, such as the façade, the walls and the windows.

The second part of the project is a provocation to the public, an invitation to think about time: How we manage it; if we value it or not… It is composed by a placard and a clock mounted on an easel. Every time I entered the studio to start a new day of work, I restarted the timer of the clock to time the hours I work. During the duration of the exhibition, I summed up these ours to create a contrast between the capitalist way to count the working ours, and the effort the artistic work actually requires. The sentence on the placard (“…”) invites the public to imagine the quantity of hours that pass and all the possibilities that this frame of time offers. The window where it was exposed is idyllic to stimulate the public to interact with the closed façade of the building in which Experimentem amb l’Art is located.
